Idea of foundation
Roskilde Airshow is held at Roskilde Airport every second year - first time in 1995. The purpose is to promote the interest of flying for a wide spectra of people. The Airshow shall appeal to audience at all ages and give them a thrilling experience with air show and exhibitions related to both civil and military flying now and in the past.
The Air show addresses itself to the whole family. Specially efforts are made to represent
and inform about various education possibilities within the flying industry, both civilian
and military.
Being the only airshow on Sjælland (Zealand) and in the Copenhagen area, the airshow attracts people from a broad area of Denmark and southern Sweden. 20.000 - 25.000 spectators are expected depending on the weather.
The Air show
As with previous Roskilde Airshow the Air show committee try to present as many different airplanes as possible both for the ground and the air show. Military planes and helicopters from the Navy, the Army and the Air force will participate. Also participation of civil passengers planes, business aircraft and helicopters. Military war birds from second world war, acrobatic flights, a great number of experimental airplanes (homebuilt) and veteran airplanes including the Danish KZ airplanes. The planes will come - apart from Denmark - from Sweden, Norway, Germany and England. Further, gliders, ultra lights, model plane and parachute jumping will participate. At least one international Airshow Team will participate.
Exhibitions
All aircraft participating in the air show will be accessible on ground. Further a great number of different exhibitions stands related to flying, such as flying clubs, flying unions, flying schools etc, are expected to the ground show. A travelling fun fair will be
in the area for the kids. Food and beverages can be bought as well.
The organizers
Roskilde Airshow is organized by Roskilde Airshow Club. Any profit from the show will be used to encourage the interest for flying and education of private pilots.
Weather conditions
An important factor at an airshow is the weather. A part from the general rules for aerobatic flying which is 8 km visibility and 900 m ceiling, the different airshow teams have their own minimas for visibility and ceiling, which must be present to carry out the air display. As organizer we are unfortunately not incharge of the weather conditions but in the many years that Roskilde Airshow has been held, we have been able to carry out the airshow every year.
Safety
As with all other aviation matters safety at an airshow is high. In the "Rules and Regulations for aviation" there are specific rules for getting through an airshow. There must be one person who is responsible towards the authorities. There most be ambulance and search and rescue. The aircraft may not overfly the aera of the spectators and the distance must be at least 150 m. A part for the rules and regulations set by the authorties, the organizers of Roskilde Airshow has in close co-operation with Roskilde Airport set rules for communication if an accident should happen. Instructions for the spectators can be found in the programme for the airshow an on posters.
